Some of our favorite things come into our lives by chance, and books are no exception. That’s the theory behind the new book-suggestion jars in the Youth Services and Teen areas.
You can give the muses a hint by choosing the color of the slip that you will pull from the jar. Dark green slips for kids, for example, will net a humorous book, while pale blue will summon a mystery. The six other colors will assure readers of other, specific genres. Librarians suggested titles for the jar.
Youth and Teen librarians decided to deploy the jar because an equivalent setup has proved popular with many adult readers. If the jar misses the mark, staff librarians are always on hand to offer a more informed suggestion … and vice versa.
