Did you know that Prescott Public Library has been "going green" for over a year? Here are a few of the earth friendly projects the library has been working on:
  • Starting January 1, 2009, PPL went plastic-free by replacing disposable plastic bags with sturdy reusable PPL bags (available for $2 from the Friends of the Library).
  • In January 2009, the library installed a 1,000 gallon tank on the east side of the Downtown Library to harvest rainwater. The simple gravity-fed system collects rainwater for supplemental watering of trees and shrubs.
  • In autumn 2009 the library installed solar panels on the roof of the Downtown Library, and the panels went live at the beginning of December. The panels generate up to 11 kW of electricity, and the system is designed for easy expansion in the future. Click here for the latest information on how much energy the solar panels are generating.
  • At the end of the "Go Green @ Your Library" Winter Reading Program, Prescott Public Library will introduce a cool new recycling program for library patrons and staff.

Thanks to the Friends of the Prescott Public Library for their generous support of the 2010 Winter Reading Program!
