Art in June

Drop-in Crafts

Art in June is a fine arts program presented by the Prescott Art Docents. Children must have completed first grade (or be at least 6 1/2 years old) to attend. Space is limited, and advance registration is required for each session. Stop by the Youth Desk or call 777-1537 to register, starting May 1.

Art in June runs from 10:30 am to 12 noon, in the library's Founders Suite. Please note that children must be picked up by the same adult who signed them in at the start of the session.

If your child is not able to secure a spot in Art in June, they may enjoy Drop-in Crafts at the library on Tuesday afternoons.

Monday, June 7 - Artistic Weaving: Wonders of the Navajos     Learn how Geraldine, the goat, gets woven into a rug.  See how weavers use the elements of art to create designs and patterns in their work.  Enjoy weaving a bookmark to take home while learning about color, line, and texture.  Presented by Jean Ellen Brugger and Carol Ann Schreiber.

Monday, June 14 - Dogs, Dogs, DOGS!     Dogs have been a part of human life and art for thousands of years.  Come see how artists have represented man's best friend in their paintings and sculpture.  Use a variety of materials and techniques to create your own "dog art."  Presented by Nancy Shugrue and Susan Wolfe.

Monday, June 21 - Rock Art, What Does it Say?     Investigate the Prescott area petroglyphs to discover the symbols that the ancient people used on rocks and cliffs.  See a slide show of rock art and learn what scientists think the people were saying in drawings and pictures.  Create your own petroglyphs to illustrate happenings in your life.  Presented by Carolyn Harris.

Monday, June 28 - Picasso Portraits     Welcome to the world of Picasso!  Come and explore the artist's world through his use of color, shape, and unusual facial features.  Create your own Picasso style portrait after being introduced to a variety of his works.  Presented by Lenora Warnock and Carole Mastio.

Kids of all ages are invited to drop in on Tuesdays from 1:00 - 2:30 pm to create all kinds of cool crafts! Children under 5 will need grownup help. Groups of 10 or more, please call 777-1537 to see if space is available.
