Prescott Public Library requests your cooperation following our Unattended Child Policy.

Prescott Public Library welcomes children of all ages and seeks to create an enjoyable environment for all patrons.

The responsibility for the safety and behavior of children in the library rests with their parents, legal guardians, or other responsible adult caregivers (not siblings).  Library staff cannot provide supervision for unattended children.

• Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult who assumes responsibility for their safety and behavior while in the library. 
• Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied continually by their parent or responsible adult caregiver.
• Library staff will attempt to locate the parents or responsible adult caregivers of unattended children in the library.  If parents or caregivers cannot be located, staff will attempt to contact them by phone.  If they cannot be reached, the police will be called.
• Disruptive behavior will be handled according to the Standards of Behavior Policy.
• If unattended children under the age of 12 are in the Library at closing time, two staff members will wait 10 minutes for the parents or adult caregivers to arrive.  If they do not arrive by 10 minutes after closing, the police will be called.
