Join the Prescott Astronomy Club for talks on hot topics in astronomy and space science. This month’s topic is Catalina Sky Survey and Target Asteroids! with Richard and Dolores Hill, Technical Staff, Department of Planetary Sciences, University of Arizona. The Catalina Sky Survey has been the leading asteroid survey program for 7 years looking for near earth asteroids or objects (comets too) that pose an impact threat to the earth.
Rik Hill has been with the CSS since 1999 and will give an overview of their activities, current status and future plans that will keep this survey in the lead for years to come.
Dolores Hill, a meteoriticist with Lunar & Planetary Lab, will discuss Target Asteroids!, a citizen science program of the NASA OSIRIS-REx asteroid sample return mission.
Third Thursday Star Talks are presented in partnership with the Prescott Astronomy Club. Speakers are carefully selected from a variety of regional organizations for their knowledge and outstanding ability to discuss their topic.
