This year’s Battle of the Books will be epic, with 52 teens committed to testing their understanding of six great books.
The Summer Reading event has grown every year under the tutelage of lead librarian Jennifer Kendall, inspiring our community’s young adults to nurture a love of literature while expanding their ranges of interest to include different genres. The teams will square off on July 31 at the library.
Books selected for this summer’s competition include Salt to the Sea, a work of historical fiction by Ruta Sepetys; Long Way Down, realistic fiction, by Jason Reynolds ; The Westing Game, a mystery, by Ellen Raskin; Bomb, a work of narrative non-fiction by Steve Sheinkin; and the 14th Goldfish, science fiction, by Jennifer Holm.
Teens are organized into teams of as many as four, and each member is typically assigned to become an expert on one or more books. One set of selected works is given to each team, thanks to generous support from the Friends of Prescott Public Library.
